AI and the Future of Work: Why Responsible Workforce Transitions Are Now a Board-Level Priority in the GCC

Perspectives from coaches, HR leaders and organizational experts working across the Gulf.

A new report from The Adecco Group, On the Threshold: AI, the Future of Work and the Rise of the Hybrid Workforce, cuts through the noise on artificial intelligence with a message HR leaders in the Gulf need to hear: the future of work is not pre-written. AI is reshaping how work is done far faster than it is displacing people wholesale, and the organisations that plan the transition deliberately will pull ahead of those that wait.

For CHROs, HR directors and HRBPs across the GCC, the practical question is no longer “will AI change our workforce?” It is “how do we move our people through that change responsibly, and protect our employer brand while we do it?” Here are the research signals that matter most and what to do about them.

The headline: adaptation, not a “doom loop”

The report is deliberately measured. Rather than predicting mass unemployment, it describes widening uncertainty and multiple possible futures, most of which point to a hybrid workforce in which humans and AI systems produce work together. Across the scenarios it models, one pattern is consistent: reskilling and redeployment shift from occasional, one-off projects to a permanent operating capability. Static job titles lose relevance; the ability to move people into new, evolving human–machine roles becomes a durable advantage.

In other words, the winners will not be the companies that cut fastest. They will be the ones that can continuously map skills, retrain, and redeploy talent as roles change shape.

Why this lands differently in the Gulf

GCC employers are managing AI adoption alongside national workforce agendas (Emiratisation, Saudisation, and similar programs) and intense competition for scarce local talent. That combination raises the stakes on every workforce transition. How you exit, redeploy or reskill people is now visible, reputational and, in some cases, regulated.

Handled poorly, a restructuring damages your employer brand in a tight talent market and sends the wrong signal to the people you are trying to retain. Handled well, it becomes proof that your organisation treats people with dignity even when roles change, which is exactly what high-calibre candidates and national talent look for.

What forward-looking HR teams are doing now

  1. Moving from headcount planning to skills planning, mapping which capabilities are rising, declining or shifting as AI enters workflows, before restructuring becomes urgent.

  2. Building internal redeployment routes so people whose roles are automated can move into adjacent, growing roles rather than straight out the door.

  3. Treating outplacement and career transition as standard practice, not a last resort, giving departing employees real support to land their next role.

  4. Protecting the employer brand deliberately, recognising that in the GCC, how you part ways travels fast through a connected professional community.

How LCS supports responsible transitions

As the official LHH affiliate in the Gulf, LCS helps organizations manage workforce change end to end. Our career transition and outplacement programs give affected employees structured coaching, CV and personal-branding support, and access to LHH's global tools and job-market network, delivered by career transition consultants physically based across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC.
